Research and Thesis Topics
- Sociocultural aspects of mathematics and science education
How participation and achievement in mathematics and science are affected by several social factors including gender, ethnicity, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. What effects do internationalisation and globalisation have on the two disciplines of mathematics and science education?
- The use of action research in mathematics and science education
How can teachers’ involvement in research assist in bridging the gap between academic knowledge and the teachers’ practices in the classroom. How can action research be used for development of teachers and for their professionalisation. How can students’ involvement in research provide a productive pedagogy for use in dealing with student disengagement?
- Critical and socially–responsible mathematics and science education
What roles do science and mathematics studies have in understanding and managing the social world of students and contribute to effective citizenship in society.
