The Master of Philosophy (Science Education) and Master of Philosophy (Mathematics Education) by research are courses that consist of a thesis involving a study of an applied nature relevant to the student’s own teaching situation. Coursework units may be taken as part of the Master of Science by research. The thesis is related to the Key Centre’s areas of research specialisation: including teaching and learning, constructivism, school leadership, classroom environments, evaluation and assessment, curriculum and computing and technology education. The research topic is determined through consultation between supervisor and student. Support for developing a research proposal is available in the online Candidacy Application Guide. Possible thesis topics are suggested in the SMEC’s Academic Staff section where staff’s Research Interests are listed. The examination of the thesis involves two examiners, at least one of whom is external to the University.
